Flaky Pie Crust

Makes one 9" pie crust.

Ingredients

  • Flour1 Cup
  • Salt1/2 Teaspoon
  • Vegetable Shortening1/3 Cup plus 2 Tablespoons
  • Ice Water2 Tablespoons

Instructions

1. Combine flour and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is the size of small peas.

2. Sprinkle water, 1 tablespoon at a time, over flour mixture, tossing lightly with a fork until mixture cleans sides of bowl.

3. Pat dough into a ball. Refrigerate, wrapped in plastic, 1 hour.

4. Roll out and place in pie pan.

Note: Handle pastry as little as possible. Before rolling out - dough may be frozen, wrapped in plastic, for several weeks.
