Nana's Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • Oatmeal1 1/2 Cups
  • Boiling Water2 Cups
  • Lard2 Tablespoons
  • Salt2 Teaspoons
  • Molasses4 Tablespoons
  • Yeast Cake1

Instructions

Combine oatmeal and 2 cups boiling water. Add lard, salt, and molasses.

When lukewarm, add 1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water. Add 5 cups flour and enough more to make a soft dough.

Let rise and mold into two loaves. When double in size, bake in 350 to 375 degree oven for about 50 minutes.

Note: You can substitute butter, oleo, or shortening for the lard.
